About us
nuanse is a Canadian nonprofit that helps people understand obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We work with registered psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists to create clear, trustworthy information, free in French and English.
How it works
nuanse is not a clinic, and it doesn't replace one. We're a bridge between the people who understand OCD best and the people who need to understand it.
Experts create it
Registered clinicians help write every page in plain language, then review and sign it before it goes live.
We publish it free
Every article is free to read and listen to, in French and English, for every age. The person searching at 2 a.m. shouldn't have to pay to understand what's happening to them.
Donations spread it
Your support puts reliable information in front of the parent, the teen, or the grandparent who would otherwise find the myths first.
A message from our Founder
Hello everyone! First of all, thank you for being part of this community. I hope the information we've built in partnership with our incredible licensed health experts can help you or a loved one better understand OCD. I've lived with OCD for a large part of my life. Uneducated, unprepared and unmedicated, my early twenties quickly became chaotic and I lost control. Years later, when I got sober at 27, the fear and guilt from those years didn't leave my life along with the substances. In fact, they quickly turned into obsessions to calm the anxiety, and I was diagnosed with OCD by an amazing psychiatrist at Montreal's Jewish General Hospital. With a diagnosis, medication, and a psychologist who really understood my unique neurology, I learned how to break my spirals. I learned that a thought can feel real without being true, that I don't have to control everything to be okay, that my OCD latches onto my most deeply rooted fears, and that, in fact, I will be okay. I started nuanse so others can get there faster and feel a little less alone along the way. I hope that together we can help people move away from fighting OCD and toward accepting it as something they can not only live with, but thrive with.

Clinical committee
Our content is reviewed by a committee that includes a psychologist specialized in exposure and response prevention (ERP), a child psychiatrist, a clinician in geriatrics, and people with lived experience of OCD. Members will be named here as they join.
Funding
nuanse is funded by public donations, foundation grants, and aligned sponsors. Never by advertising, and never by selling data.
Your donations pay the registered mental health experts who work with us, create free educational information about OCD, and amplify it so it reaches the people who need it.
nuanse is pursuing charitable status. Official donation receipts will be issued once it's granted.
