How nuanse is run

nuanse is a small Canadian non-profit. Here is who does the work, how a page gets published, where the money comes from, and what we will never do.

Our story

nuanse started with a simple frustration: most of what people find about OCD online is either frightening, full of clichés, or trying to sell something.

We wanted one calm place, in English and in French, that explains OCD in plain language and always points people to registered mental health experts. That is still the whole idea.

Who does the work

The clinical committee

Registered mental health experts who review every page before it goes live. Seats are open right now, and we will only list members once they have joined.

Meet the committee or apply

The support committee

Volunteers who write, translate, test for accessibility and bring nuanse to schools and communities.

Volunteer with us

People with lived experience

People who live with OCD, and those who love them, help us check that every page feels true and kind. Their stories are only shared with written consent.

How a page gets published

  1. A volunteer drafts the page in plain language.
  2. It is written or translated so the English and French versions are equal.
  3. A registered expert on the clinical committee reviews it and signs off, or asks for changes.
  4. Only then is it published, with the reviewer badge showing it was checked.
  5. Pages are reviewed again over time, and anyone can tell us about a mistake.

Where the money comes from

  • Individual donations. That is all.
  • No ads, no trackers, no paywall and no sponsored content.
  • Our charitable registration is in progress. Until it is granted, we cannot issue tax receipts.
How nuanse is funded

What we will never do

  • Diagnose anyone, or suggest that a page can replace a professional.
  • Take money from anyone in exchange for what we say or who we list.
  • Sell, share or track your personal information.
  • Publish a personal story without written consent.

Holding us to account

If something on nuanse is wrong, unclear or hurtful, we want to know. Write to us and a person will read it.
